Fresh hair, a little extra care.
Whether you wear wefts, tape-ins, K-tips, or I-tips, a thoughtful routine helps keep your extensions looking beautiful. Use this guide alongside the personalized instructions from your stylist—care can vary by installation method.
After Your Installation
Follow your stylist’s instructions about when you can first wash your hair. Some attachment methods need time to settle before washing or exposure to moisture.
Before leaving your appointment, make sure you understand your recommended products, brushing routine, and maintenance schedule.
Brush Gently
-
Use the extension-safe brush recommended by your stylist.
-
Support your hair below the attachment points and gently work through tangles, starting at the ends.
-
Brush in sections so you reach the inner layers.
-
Never pull through knots or catch your brush on tapes, bonds, beads, or stitching.
-
Ask your stylist how to detangle your specific method when wet.
Wash & Condition
-
Gently detangle before washing.
-
Keep your head upright and let the water flow down through your hair.
-
Cleanse your scalp carefully without vigorous rubbing or piling the lengths together.
-
Use your stylist’s recommended shampoo and conditioner.
-
Apply conditioner, masks, and oils through the lengths and ends, keeping them away from attachment points unless instructed otherwise.
-
Rinse thoroughly, including between layers.
Dry & Style
-
Gently blot with a soft towel rather than rubbing or twisting.
-
Dry your roots and attachment areas thoroughly.
-
Use heat protectant and the lowest effective heat setting.
-
Keep hot tools away from tapes, bonds, beads, and weft attachments.
-
Avoid styles that pull tightly on your installation.
Sleep
-
Make sure your hair and attachment areas are dry before bed.
-
Gently brush, then secure your hair in a loose braid or comfortable low ponytail.
-
Use a silk or satin pillowcase to help reduce friction.
-
Remove clip-ins and other removable pieces before sleeping.
Exercise, Swimming & Vacation
Keep your hair comfortably secured during workouts and outdoor activities to reduce tangling. Dry damp attachment areas afterward.
Before swimming, ask your stylist about precautions for your installation. Chlorine and saltwater can affect extension hair and attachments. If your hair gets wet, rinse promptly and follow your recommended washing and drying routine.
Care Notes for Your Method
Wefts: Your stylist will show you how to section between rows, clean your scalp, and brush without catching the stitching or beads.
Tape-ins: Keep oily products and conditioner away from the tapes. Follow the advised waiting period before your first wash.
K-tips: Keep products and direct heat away from the bonds. Follow your stylist’s instructions for gently keeping individual strands separated.
I-tips: Avoid pulling on the beads. Ask your stylist how to care for the individual attachments and recognize when maintenance is needed.
